ESSENTIAL LAW LINKS FOR QLD
LAWYERS
Tony Morris has produced a comprehensive and quite excellent list of law
links, along with a still-developing list of Queensland barristers and law
firms' email addresses and URLs. Most eyes rapidly glaze over at the sight
of many Queensland legal web sites, but thankfully Tony has listed us too
(so there's still some hope of escaping the urge to curl up and sleep). By
golly - this could become an essential bookmark!
AUSTRALIAN
BUSINESS ENTRY POINT
The Australian Federal Government sank $8.5 million into this massive site
to provide a single online entry point for over 800 business services offered
by dozens of Departments. You can apply for a lot of fundamental bits of
legal paperwork here too (like tax file numbers). We think they overspent,
but hey! That's government.....
QUEENSLAND LAWS
ONLINE
Queensland finally put all its laws online in May 1998 after a major public
outcry that it was about the only state in Australia where citizens actually
had to shell out to get access to the legislation they'd paid Parliament
to enact. Another great rort bite the dust! Not before time either, we
think....
AUSTRALIAN SECURITIES AND INVESTMENTS
COMMISSION
Accountants with attitude, ASIC is famous for letting major corporate swindlers
escape while they devote all their efforts to crushing little guys. Nonetheless,
their site is still a great place to look up basic company and business contact
information. Gotta love 'em....
AUSTLII
The Australian Legal Institute's database is a pretty moxy place to keep
up on just about everything connected with Australian law. We take it in
at least once a day. Our advice? Don't leave home without it!
LAWNET
Yes, it's a commercial service. And yes, if you're in The Business it's pretty
darned good. Otherwise, it's time to hit the trail hombre....
LBC LAWWATCH
Part of LawNet (above). We took a straw poll and the whole office agrees
that The Law Book Company's site is much better than a coma!
BUTTERWORTHS
This site has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer through the front door and
all the grace of a wiseguy going down for the third time with a fatal dose
of lead poisoning. That's probably why we like it so much.

HIGH COURT OF
AUSTRALIA
Always a popular family favourite! Take the kids on an Internet surfing trip
with you to see the place some call "The Big House". Remind them that they
could wind up being in there for life if they keep studying law.
